XF1re

This is only for people that miss those "old-school" gaming social/chat applications like Ventrillo, GameSpy Arcade and so.

https://xf1re.com/

Xf1re is a reverse-engineered project of the old Xfire program which closed in 2015 (I only managed to use it once back when I used to play HaloCE so much =/). It's mainly focused on gaming and it's based on the latest old version of the original Xfire client so don't expect fancy and modern details. It works similar to Steam but isn't a game store but a "social" gaming platform.

It allows you to customize your web profile, sync some of your installed games, record and upload videos and screenshots, save and query favorite gameservers and so on.

Some details if you're going to register:

  1. If your password characters is longer than 12 it will be truncated to their maximum specified characters without any warning (isn't even mentioned on the signup page).

  2. Seems like you cannot delete posted comments on screenshots/videos and similar.

Red Hat Linux

Did you ever get a chance to use Red Hat Linux back in the day? It was a commercial open source version of Linux with the first stable release was on my fifth birthday ironically enough in 1995 but was discontinued in 2004. The OS was merged with Fedora Linux in 2003.

MSN Messenger

I used to use MSN back when I was a teenager in the mid to late 00's. My best friend and I would hop on chat rooms and get people's screennames and talk to random people on MSN Messenger. Do you have fond memories using this chat client? I thought it was better than AIM and Yahoo Messenger.

Microsoft Comic Chat

I just discovered this old IRC client from Microsoft today. This software is now open source, so if you wanted to mess around with it you can now! I've never really been big into IRC, and seeing how this came out in the mid 90's when I started elementary school it's no wonder I didn't know it existed. :V It also brought the best font to the world, Comic Sans. (Yes I said what I said, CS is the best font!)

Open OSCAR Server

If you have a VPS or your own server at home and miss AIM or ICQ, you can now host your own OSCAR server using Open OSCAR Server (previously Retro AIM Server) and relive those old AIM and ICQ clients without depending from those closed and centralized services like NINA.

SkyOS

Did anyone here ever use SkyOS in the past? Support ended back in 2009 but the first public release was way back in 1997. Looking at the screenshots it looks pretty dang cool, it's too bad SkyOS couldn't stick around. But since Linux ended up being the most popular Unix like OS, I guess it just couldn't keep up with the Linux distros at the time. (And Windows of course was dominating the scene.) SkyOS was originally free too but then in 2003 they started charging for it so that probably didn't help either.

TempleOS

Has anyone here ever use TempleOS before? I know it hasn't been updated since 2017 and it originally came out 20 years ago. Terry Davis, the creator of the operating system created it because he had manic episodes and he interpreted them as a "message from God." I've never messed around with it but I've watched videos on it in the past. It's written in "Holy C" (a mix of C and C++) and x86 asm.

Windows Classic 7

So this is a mod of Windows 10 LTSC, but since it's meant to act and look like Windows 7 I figured I would place it here. Yes it's not quite an alternative platform since it's Windows, but since it's based on an older version of Windows and functions on a operating system that isn't used by most of the general public I will let it slide. I'm sure people are still using Windows 10, I have Windows 10 on a laptop. I hate Windows 10 but this version is pretty dang cool looking. I won't share the link to download it here, Michael MJD made a video showcasing it the other day and I think he got in trouble for sharing links to these mod packs in the past. Still I think it's worthy of a thread.
