We all have those films that no matter how much we try, we just can't stomach to finish, whether it be because of the obscene portrayals of the darker side of humanity or simply because the film turns out to be a dud. What was the last film that happened to you with?

For me, it was Maneater (2022). The special effects, the dialogue, just everything was blah. I gave it a fair try and had to stop after about 30 minutes or so.

The Plot So Far:
Rumors have begun circulating of an unknown virus originating from the southeast Asian sector of the world, codenamed A.R.E.S. Details about A.R.E.S are slim to none, the small snippets available hint that it began as an attempt to delve into creating a cure for mental diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, attempting to rewire the programming of the neurons to ignore the damaged circuits/pathways and create new ones. News has been quiet; but, rumors have begun circulating on the web about the militaries of the region beginning to mobilize and martial law being enforced.

Domestic travel has been suspended temporarily to the entire Southeastern region of the globe; but, new cases have begun appearing in other portions of the world. The latest confirmed case, nicknamed Patient Twelve (the twelfth confirmed case), was reported checking into Mercy General in the Bronx. Media outlets have been prohibited access and the Surgeon General has warned the public not to panic, there is no cause for alarm.

Of course, this had the opposite effect and people began fleeing the city in droves and mass hysteria followed. Lawlessness has quickly spread across the United States, the President declaring martial law and mobilizing all National Guard forces.

As the world begins to go to shit, this is SURVIVAL: DAY ONE.

THE RULES:

Since we're all grown adults, I'm going to keep them simple and to the point;

• Respect your fellow participants, no one is greater or lesser than anyone else.

• Your character must be 18+, not up for discussion.

• Your character can have any background, skills or traits; but, they must be realistically feasible/plausible. No Terminator farmers with a high school diploma and no military training.

• The virus' side-effects are unknown and the snippets/clues are hidden in the world of the game, more will be revealed as time goes on.

• Your character cannot have insider knowledge about another character, they may only know what the other player allows them to share or has been shared with them

The Roanoke Colony, also called the Lost Colony, was an English settlement founded in 1587 on Roanoke Island (modern‑day North Carolina). It was meant to be England’s first permanent colony in the New World. Instead, it became a historical mystery when all 115 colonists vanished without leaving a clear explanation.

What happened before the disappearance

• The colony struggled with food shortages and tense relations with local tribes.

• Governor John White sailed back to England for supplies.

• The Anglo‑Spanish War delayed his return for three years.

• When he finally came back in 1590, the settlement was deserted.

The only clues left behind

• The word “CROATOAN” carved into a fort post.

• The letters “CRO” carved into a nearby tree.

• No signs of a struggle, fire, or mass grave.

• All houses dismantled rather than destroyed, suggesting an orderly departure.

Leading theories

None are proven, but these are the most discussed:

• Integration with Native tribes
The colonists may have joined the Croatan (Hatteras) tribe or others for survival. Some later English settlers reported seeing Europeans among Native communities.

• Relocation attempt gone wrong
They may have tried to move inland toward the Chesapeake Bay, where they originally intended to settle.

• Starvation or disease
Harsh conditions could have forced them to abandon the colony or led to mass death.

• Spanish attack
Spain, hostile to English expansion, may have destroyed the colony — though no evidence supports this.

• Lost at sea
A failed attempt to sail back to England or relocate by boat could have ended in disaster.

The Voynich Manuscript is a mysterious illustrated book, carbon‑dated to the early 1400s, written in an unknown script that no one has ever successfully decoded. It’s named after Wilfrid Voynich, the rare‑book dealer who purchased it in 1912.

What makes it so strange

• The text is written in a unique alphabet not found in any other known language.

• Statistical analysis shows it behaves like a real language — but no one can read it.

• The illustrations depict plants, astronomical diagrams, zodiac symbols, bathing women, and strange biological systems that don’t match known medieval art.

Main sections of the manuscript

Scholars generally divide it into:

• Herbal section — drawings of plants, many of which don’t exist

• Astronomical section — stars, suns, moons, zodiac wheels

• Biological section — human figures in tubes, baths, or networks

• Cosmological section — fold‑out diagrams of unknown purpose

• Pharmaceutical section — jars, roots, and plant parts

• Recipes section — short paragraphs marked with star‑like bullets

Attempts to decode it

Over the last century:

• Cryptographers from WWI and WWII codebreaking units tried and failed

• Linguists, mathematicians, and AI models have proposed theories

• Some claim it’s a cipher, others a lost language, others a hoax

• No theory has gained consensus

Why it fascinates people

• It’s old enough to be authentic

• It’s complex enough to seem meaningful

• It’s undeciphered enough to feel like a puzzle waiting to be solved

It sits at the intersection of history, cryptography, art, and mystery, which is why it keeps showing up in conspiracy discussions, documentaries, and fiction.
