This past January, Apple TV secured the rights to make movies and TV shows based on the work of author Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson, who has sold more than 50 million books over the course of his career, has spent the last two decades writing dozens of books and short stories, most of them set in an expansive fantasy universe called the Cosmere. His fanbase is eagerly awaiting the chance to see some of these tales make the jump to the screen, and that's now a bit closer to happening.

Today, Sanderson announced that he had finished work on the first draft of Mistborn, a movie based on his Mistborn series of books. "After many months of work, I'm thrilled to announce the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay is DONE!" he wrote. "Just in time to celebrate the book's original publication, twenty years ago this month. Do please remember that this is just an early step in a very long process, but I'm terribly excited by how it turned out!"

The first Mistborn book, The Final Empire, was published by Tor Books on July 17, 2006. There are seven Mistborn books published to date, divided into two eras set hundreds of years apart. The Final Empire kicks off the original Mistborn trilogy, which is set in a medieval world led by a seemingly immortal tyrant called the Lord Ruler. We follow a small group of people dedicated to bringing him down. It's assumed that this first Mistborn movie will start adapting this story.
