Profile banner/art

Howabout allowing the use of a profile banner similar to how Xenforo & IPS have it?

It can utilize the big blue background on the profile page as seen here:

Maybe have that be the banner/background?

What do you think?

Sleek Styles Theme

Name: Sleek Styles
Author: Jamie
Version: 1.0.1

It's a bit silly really but I thought it'd be fun to convert my old Sleek Styles theme from back in the day.

Preview Theme

Download Theme JSON

Import the JSON as a new theme and update the settings so that it doesnt inherit from the default theme.

Pages hierarchy.....

I'd like to see pages be able to have multiple layers.....example:

a page such as sitename.com/streams

but also have that act as a category of sorts too so:

sitename.com/streams/smokey

could also exist.....

I know it won't be possible but i'd like to build something similar to this: Live streams | Revillution - Your Portal to Video Game and Content Creation Entertainment | Gaming Forums

I figure for selected users i could build a page where i embed their stream and then have a section on their page with their socials and the like.....I think that'd be pretty cool.

Release 1.3.6

Hi everyone,

Version 1.3.6 is here, and it's another big one - touching almost every corner of the platform. Let's get into it.

Theme Editor

The highlight of 1.3.6 is the brand new Theme Editor, available directly from the front end clicking your username dropdown.

You can now customize every color in your theme - in both light and dark modes - using a visual color picker. No more guessing hex codes or editing raw CSS.

Beyond colors, the editor also allows you to:

  • Write custom CSS

  • Edit layout templates

  • Upload your own board logo and forum marker images

All changes happen in real-time through a slide-out panel, so you can instantly see the results of your adjustments.

Under the hood, the entire theme system has been rebuilt using CSS custom properties and variables, making your customizations cleaner, more predictable, and resilient to future updates. Some custom themes may need some minor fixing. I tried to cause as little damage as I could. If wanted, I can look into an automatic migration later. But now our theme system is finalized, so we can stop pushing changes to the theme system. 😇

The theme editor is still a work in progress.

Custom Templates (RPG Templates)

For RPG and creative communities, this is a game changer. Due to some great feedback from the RPG community, ForumSpark now supports fully custom Mustache-style HTML templates across six key areas:

  • Mini-profiles

  • Profile pages

  • Forum rows

  • Topic rows

  • Replies

  • Categories

You’ll have access to variables, conditionals, and loops - everything needed to build immersive, highly customized layouts.

If you’ve ever wanted your forum to feel like it belongs in a completely different universe - now you can build it that way from the ground up. The custom templates are found in the theme editor.

TipTap Rich Text Editor

The old textarea is gone.

ForumSpark now uses TipTap v3, a modern WYSIWYG editor for all posts and replies.

Formatting & Structure

  • Bold, italic, headings

  • Text alignment

  • Lists and formatting tools

Media & Embeds

  • Images (paste + drag & drop)

  • YouTube embeds

  • GIF search (powered by Klipy) => Coming soon. We need to verify our production license.

Advanced Features

  • Tables

  • Code blocks

  • Mentions

  • Text color and highlight pickers

Legacy BBCode content is automatically converted, so nothing breaks.

The editor is lazy-loaded, ensuring it doesn’t impact page performance for browsing users.

And importantly - draft autosave is now built in. If a tab is closed or navigation is interrupted, your content will be restored when you return.

Gravatar Support

ForumSpark now integrates with Gravatar.

  • Avatars can be pulled automatically on registration

  • Members can link or unlink their Gravatar anytime

Help Pages & Custom Pages

Help pages and custom pages now support group-based visibility permissions.

This allows you to restrict content to specific user groups - ideal for:

  • Staff documentation

  • Member-only guides

  • VIP content

Both page types now use the TipTap editor, replacing the old plain textarea.

Google Analytics Integration

You can now add your Google Analytics tracking ID directly from board settings.

No template edits. No code injection. Just paste your ID and go.

Security Improvements

Security has been significantly strengthened in this release.

Performance Improvements

A number of performance enhancements have been introduced:

  • New database indexes for faster queries

  • Search result caching

  • Fixed N+1 queries in key areas (Most Active Users, Users Online)

  • Non-render-blocking font loading

  • Lazy-loaded images

  • Lazy-loaded editor and theme editor assets

  • Refactored CSS into smaller, component-based files

SEO & Accessibility Improvements

Building on 1.3.5, this release continues to improve:

  • Page structure

  • ARIA labels

  • Contrast ratios

These changes contribute to better accessibility and improved search engine visibility. We're nearing that perfect score:

Removed Widgets

The following widgets have been retired:

  • Today’s Active Topics

  • Today’s Top Posters

  • All Time Top Posters

These were lightly used and introduced unnecessary database queries on every page load.

The underlying data remains available, and these features will return in a more optimized form in the future.

As always, feel free to leave some feedback or suggestions.

Built-in Sidebar Widget System for Forum Pages

Hi,

I wanted to make a suggestion that I think would improve ForumSpark for a lot of forum owners.

At the moment, if we want to have a sidebar next to the forum boards, we have to edit the theme layout and try to build it ourselves. I’ve actually been trying to add one to my own theme recently, but I haven’t been able to get it working properly.

Because of that, I think it would be really helpful if ForumSpark had a built-in sidebar widget option that could be enabled from the admin panel and would work across all themes.

For example, an option to enable a left or right sidebar on the forum page, and then choose which widgets appear there.

This could include things like:

  • Recent Activity

  • Users Online

  • Recently Online

  • Custom HTML or BBCode widgets

  • Image widgets (for banners or announcements)

  • Social media links

  • Affiliate banners or partner links

A custom widget would be really useful so we could add things like social media links, affiliate images, announcements, or any custom content we want to show beside the forum boards.

Right now it seems like the only way to do this is through theme editing, which can be difficult and may break when switching themes. Having a built-in sidebar widget system would make things much easier and more flexible for forum owners.

Thanks for taking the time to read the suggestion.

XenForo & Jcink Importers available

Hi everyone,

I’ve just successfully imported a XenForo forum into ForumSpark. The entire process took around 10 minutes, from uploading the database to completing the import.

If you're interested in importing your own community, you can find the Import Data option in the ACP under the Advanced section. Currently, we support imports from XenForo and Jcink, with more importers on the way.

If there’s another platform you’d like to import from, feel free to let me know - I'm happy to prioritize based on demand.

The importer is fairly barebones at the moment, but I’ll be improving it soon with additional import options and export tools.

Shoutbox Rules

Hello~

When I click on the shield/rules button on Root Support's shoutbox, the rules for the shoutbox appear. However, when I click on the rules for my shoutbox, a translucent overlay appears but no textbox with the rules. I've let it sit for several minutes at different points, and I can't get the rules to show up.

I have the shoutbox enabled, set to bottom, and I did use bbcode for the rules. However, just in case, I removed the section with bbcode but the rules still wouldn't load even with that gone.

Log in help.....

I can't log in on my forum now. I hit the "log in" at the top right hand corner of my forum and it just refreshes my forum. It doesn't pull up the log in box like it normally does.

Import & Export tools coming soon

I just wanted to share a quick update.

At ForumSpark, we believe in transparency and flexibility. If you build your forum with us and later decide that it’s time to move to a paid platform, we’ll fully support that decision. We offer free database exports so you can take your hard work with you and continue growing your community elsewhere.

At the same time, we’ll always welcome you if you decide to move from another platform to ForumSpark.

To support both directions, we’re planning to introduce a streamlined import and export system to make transitions as smooth as possible. I don’t have an ETA just yet, but it’s coming soon.

PM system.

My only real gripe with the software is the way PM's are laid out & handled, it seems very.....messy......unorganized.

too much like an instant message and less like a PM. A more traditional layout & design for PM's, even as a toggable option would be cool.

W welian ·Introductions ·7 months ago
Hello, I'm welian!

Hi everyone, my name is welian (stylistic lowercase w, no one will die if it gets capitalized) and I learned about ForumSpark from The Admin Zone and again from RPG-Directory.

This feels refreshingly lightweight, and looks like it has a few quality-of-life features I like already built in, which is nice.

I'm not currently about to start any new forum projects, but I'm rooting for ForumSpark's success and look forward to seeing this community grow!

Someone please tag me when a WYSIWYG editor and dice roller show up - especially if the dice are customizable so that I can run Powered by the Apocalypse or Forged in the Dark games!

How to customise individual board layouts?

Hello!
I was wondering how I could change these two boards:

Into something like this:

I figured out that the boards have unique identifiers thanks to the tabbed category code and Empire. These ones are 90005 and 90006, so I know I'll be targeting those, I think? Is it possible to do on Spark? If not, that's fine! (For the example, I deliberately left out some of the elements, like views. Though I forgot to add topic/post count. /sweats/ Hopefully the point comes across regardless.)

I hope this question makes sense.

Can't edit stylesheet in "Edit Stylesheet"

Update: resolved!

I think this is a bug? Yesterday, Theme > Edit Style sheet was working just fine. Right now, I just see this:

https://i.postimg.cc/KvHNyt62/image.png

And I can't edit it at all. It's not acting as a text box. I can copy/paste the words that are written down, but I can't interact or change them at all. I also can't scroll, not even with my arrow keys.

I'm on W11, using Opera GX (fully updated).

What was your most successful tactic for getting your first 100 active members?

I was checking my stats last night and remembered when my forum had like 7 members in total lol. Those early days were tough. The tactic that worked for me was simple. I joined existing communities and contribute to real discussions there first. Then I add my forum link after providing value. People notice authenticity before promotion. That was how I was able to gain some active members.

I have an idea for a forum but i'm not sure if it'd work......

So my idea to keep things different from the likes of Revillution and other heavily gaming centric content but still remaining in the world of gaming and well, going a bit more retro with it......

My idea for a FS forum was to either:
1) Bring back my very first forum focused around game enhancer cheat codes & code hacking
B) Make a tribute/fan forum focused around the old GameShark.com forums & a few other cheat code forums from the early 2000's.

kind of the same idea, just with a different delivery...

B would have a forum with the word GameShark in it......but yeah......not 100% sure....thoughts?
