When it comes to listening to what your members want, do you do what the loudest, but few voices want?
Board Name: PulseBoard
Link: https://pulseboard.forumspark.net/
Focus: General/Miscellaneous
Highlights: It's new? I hope to use some of the features available on v2.0 to make it a really fun and relaxed community. Started off as a testing board for the features of v2.0, evolved into something could be fun to share and discuss things with others. Feel free to offer feedback. Still playing with the post rail/mini profile and such.
The place where you can get all the drama news you need or spread some juicy gossip. We don't judge...at least not to your face.
We have:
*Forum Directory (so we can share in the drama)
*NSFW (Not Safe For Work for all that hidden drama)
*Drama awaiting your arrival
Sometimes the mods behave like they are kings. They delete posts, lock threads with no explanation. Then later you find out that it was a mistake. Personally, I feel if a mistake happens publicly, they need to own it publicly too. It is as simple as that. There is no need to hide behind the admin curtain. If people start feeling that moderation is not transparent again, trust will vanish very quickly and it might be the end of that forum.
:D
Don't know if this is possible but i know on other forum software you can just just paste a link to a video from various other video sharing sites besides YouTube, such as Twitch and Odysee among others, and it auto embeds it, you can also do the same thing from Gif sites like Giphy and Tenor and i just wonder is something like that possible with FS? If so I'd like to suggest it.

Two weeks ago 2.0 went out the door, and the response has honestly been the best part of building this thing. People upgraded, people started new boards, and people sent bug reports at two in the morning. I want to say thank you in a way that actually means something.
So here it is. We are giving three communities a home for life.
The prize
Three board owners get the Starter plan for free, for as long as we exist. Not a year, not a discount code. Starter, forever, on the house.
And it does not matter where you are today. Run a classic v1 board? If you win, we move you to 2.0 together, hands on, and then it is yours for life. Halfway through a 2.0 trial? Your trial simply never ends. Never started a forum because paying for a hobby felt like a step too far? Pitch me the community you have been carrying around, and if you win it starts life on Starter.
Tell us your story
Tell us about your community in a few sentences. What it is about, who it is for, and what a permanent home would mean for it. That is the whole entry. No purchase, no credit card, etc.
I read every entry myself and pick the three I believe in most. Honest warning: that makes this a judged contest, not a raffle. A community of twelve people who genuinely care about each other beats a big number every time in my book.
The details
Entries close August 26 at 23:59 CET. The three winners are announced here on the blog in the first week of September, and I will email them personally. One entry per person, ForumSpark staff cannot enter, and the rest of the small print lives on the contest page.
Tell me about your community. It takes five minutes.
Sugar can be really addictive and there are so many people who are addicted to sugary foods and drinks. Breaking sugar addiction could be a hard thing, so how do you break a sugar addiction?
Several people suffer from different kinds of diseases and they take medications. As if now, I am suffering from depression and this is why I am taking antidepressants and a few other medications as well. So, do you take medications?
I’ve turned the board offline..you can either purge it or just let it expire… Thanks for your help and patience… much as I like what I’ve seen…if silly little things like smileys and avatars wont work for me..in spite of you confirming everything is as it should be.. then sadly I wont be converting… Cheers..appreciate your help.. 🙂
I stumbled onto this Garden.
Seriously though... Thank you Cedric.
I had a problem with another software and Cedric stepped up, went above and beyond, and was very kind. I am glad I went off into a tangent (as I often do), and engaged him in a side discussion that enabled my becoming aware of this software.
I like what I'm seeing. I don't know how much I'll contribute. Between virtual and meatspace, I don't have enough time in a day as it is. However, you may notice me lurking as I keep tabs on what is going on in this space.
Keep up the good work my man. Universe favors effort.

I want the ones I upload to appear in the post drop down box..not a bar under the box as a tiny spec…. how it works on my forum at the moment… upload file to file manager… copy img link… go to emoticons… type in say.. :lol: then add the link and it’s done… they all appear in the same box..and..as a normal size… . It’s not of massive importance in the grand scheme of things… but that being said…I do love my own smileys….I have a gazillion at the moment… 😂.
Can this either be removed…OR… can there be an option to turn it off? I really hate it…proboards has it and I think it looks awful seeing ‘deleted user’ everywhere… even changing the name..as has been suggested doesn’t
change the fact it’s a deleted user.. If a user wants to flounce in a huff..fine.. I simply change their pw so they cant log in….

Sleek Styles is now available in the marketplace.
Originally built by @Jamie — Converted to 2.0. Sleek Styles has always been something great, a deep blue calm theme with a sweep of silver. Originally built for Zetaboards by Jamie, later converted to V1, and now available for v2. This time there is a full dark mode available too and a matching footer. Enjoy!

Mulberry Grove is now available in the marketplace.
Originally built by @Jamie — Converted for v2. A quiet corner of the forest for your community. Mulberry Grove pairs deep plum evenings with mulberry reds, an open header where a berry branch drifts behind your logo, and content that sits on a bright sheet like paper on a garden table. There are some improvements done from the original design, including a new color changer, a dark mode, redesigned...

Nimbus is now available in the marketplace.
Nimbus turns your board's header into a living sky: an interactive particle field that links to your cursor, drifts with the occasional comet, and follows each visitor's local time of day, from a warm dawn to a starlit night.Everything runs on your gradient. Pick a pair and it flows through the header, the category crowns, buttons, markers and the footer. Forums with their own accent color carry i...

Some of you may have seen the “My view” and “Board setup” theme customizer that is often shipped with some of my themes. This is a lightweight solution giving some options to themes. The idea is to bring something more advanced inside the ACP and dev boards will be able to register and wire certain settings to their theme. This is coming somewhere in the near future. In this topic, I’ll explain how it works.
Everything below runs inside your theme's layout HTML and CSS.
The ideas is to have one CSS variable, with three levels of override:
Your theme CSS should never use a raw color twice. Define a small set of theme variables, and give each one a fallback chain:
body.myt {
--myt-accent: var(--mytp-accent, #3ec9a7);
}
body.myt .btn-primary {
background: var(--myt-accent);
}Read it right to left:
1. #3ec9a7 is your theme default, shipped in the CSS.
2. --mytp-accent is the admin override. It only exists when the admin saved one (see Board setup below), otherwise the fallback wins.
3. A member override is applied on top by setting --myt-accent inline on body from JavaScript, which beats the rule above.
Convention: use one prefix for the variables your CSS consumes myt-) and a second one for the admin-saved properties mytp-). That separation is what makes the three levels compose.
Board setup: theme custom properties
Admin choices are stored on the theme row as custom properties, a simple name to value map. The platform renders them into your theme stylesheet automatically:
:root {
--mytp-accent: #7a5cf0;
--mytp-heads: crown;
}So a saved property is just a CSS variable that exists on every page load, before anything paints. No JavaScript involved in applying it.
Rules the platform enforces:
- Names: lowercase letters, digits and dashes, up to 40 characters, stored without the leading -- (you save mytp-accent, it renders as --mytp-accent).
- Values: a hex color, var(--something), a url("/storage/..."), a theme resource reference, or plain text up to 80 characters (letters, digits, spaces, . , % -).
- At most 40 properties per theme.
Reading and saving from the panel
There is one JSON endpoint for it, on the board's admin surface:
GET /admin/themes/{id}/appearance
PUT /admin/themes/{id}/appearanceGET returns the current state:
{
"theme": { "id": 66, "name": "Nimbus" },
"defaultColorScheme": "dark",
"memberBackdrops": false,
"customProperties": { "mytp-accent": "#7a5cf0", "mytp-heads": "crown" },
"resources": [ { "name": "hero.jpg", "url": "..." } ]
}PUT accepts partial updates. Send only the keys you are changing; unsent keys are untouched. null (or an empty string) deletes a property, which returns it to your theme default through the fallback chain:
fetch('/admin/themes/' + themeId + '/appearance', {
method: 'PUT',
headers: {
'Content-Type': 'application/json',
'X-CSRF-TOKEN': document.querySelector('meta[name="csrf-token"]').content,
'Accept': 'application/json'
},
credentials: 'same-origin',
body: JSON.stringify({
properties: { 'mytp-accent': '#7a5cf0', 'mytp-heads': null },
defaultColorScheme: 'dark'
})
});Saving bumps the theme's version hash, so every visitor's cached stylesheet refreshes on their next page load. You never need to bust caches yourself.
Two practical details from for example Nimbus:
- Finding your theme id in JS: read it from your own stylesheet link, document.querySelector('link[href*="/main.css"]') and match themes/(\d+)/main.css.
- Showing the tab only to admins: just try the GET. It succeeds for board admins and fails for everyone else, so reveal the Board setup tab when the response is OK and keep it hidden otherwise. No separate permission check needed.
After saving, apply it live
A save only affects the next page load, so mirror the change immediately for the admin who clicked:
document.documentElement.style.setProperty('--mytp-accent', '#7a5cf0');
document.documentElement.style.removeProperty('--mytp-heads');My view: member choices in localStorage
Member preferences never touch the server. Store them in localStorage and apply them from a small script at the very top of your layout, before any content markup. That placement matters: it runs before the page paints, so the saved look is there on the first frame and nothing flashes.
<script>(function () {
var b = document.body;
var accent = null;
try { accent = localStorage.getItem('myt-accent'); } catch (e) {}
if (accent) { b.style.setProperty('--myt-accent', accent); }
var motion = 'alive';
try { motion = localStorage.getItem('myt-motion') || 'alive'; } catch (e) {}
if (motion === 'calm' || window.matchMedia('(prefers-reduced-motion: reduce)').matches) {
b.classList.add('myt-calm');
}
})();</script>Pair class toggles like myt-calm with CSS that stills your animations:
body.myt.myt-calm .myt-hero { animation: none; }Recipes
An admin feature toggle (absent means on)
Store off when disabled and delete the property when enabled. Your boot script reads it straight from CSS, so the saved state needs no extra round trip:
var spineOff = getComputedStyle(document.body).getPropertyValue('--mytp-spine').trim() === 'off';
if (! spineOff) { document.body.classList.add('myt-spine-on'); }Panel wiring: toggle on sends { properties: { 'mytp-spine': null } }, toggle off sends { properties: { 'mytp-spine': 'off' } }.
A permission the admin grants to members
Nimbus has a "Members may restyle" switch. It is just another property nbp-members-restyle: 0 when revoked. The member boot script checks it before applying any saved member accent, and the panel hides the member section when it is 0. Members keep their stored choice; it simply stops applying until the admin allows it again.
A board default pair with a member override
The admin saves mytp-a1 and mytp-a2 (Board setup). A member picking their own pair writes to localStorage and sets --myt-a1 / --myt-a2 inline on body (My view). Clearing the member choice removes the inline properties and the admin defaults show through again. This is exactly the chain from the first section, in practice.
Checklist
Theme CSS consumes
--myt-*variables withvar(--mytp-*, default)fallbacks. No repeated raw values.Boot script at the top of the layout applies member state before first paint.
Board setup tab appears only when
GET .../appearancesucceeds.Saves send only changed keys, use
nullto delete, and apply the change locally as well.A Calm or reduced-motion path exists for every animation.
Property names fit
[a-z][a-z0-9-]*and values fit the allowed formats (hex, var, url, resource, short plain text).

If you have some theme suggestions for our directory, happy to hear them. Could be screenshots, links to existing themes, a concept, whatever. 🙂 Feel free to drop them here and who knows…
On the free version 1, when I go to Forum Sections>Forum Access and click on Edit Access, nothing happens.
I was going to look at the permissions to see why I can’t Move any threads.
A brief downtime is to be expected tomorrow due to server maintenance and upgrading hardware. Total downtime shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes.

I am having trouble installing a theme I followed the docs but still nothing.
Can you message Cedric and if I have coded this right it should work right? If so I might happen to make more.

Some parts of ForumSpark get rebuilt every few months. Others quietly do their job for years without anyone touching them. The shoutbox and polls belong firmly to the second group. Neither has seen a decent improvement since ForumSpark was originally built, and to be honest, we kind of forgot about polls entirely when we designed the 2.0 boards. The poll panel was still the same two column table from the very first version, sitting on top of an otherwise modern topic page. Both have now been reb...

Horizon is now available in the marketplace.
Horizon is the theme that turns your board into a place. One photograph or artwork runs behind everything: it fills the header, slips through the category strips, and settles into a starlit footer, always cut by soft curves instead of hard banner edges. And everything about it is managed from the little sun button in the corner of the board. No CSS, no template editing, just clicking around until...
