Personally I prefer that my music preferences change depending on what I'm doing like I listen to upbeat songs when I'm working (offline or online) and calm instrumentals or some pop music when I want some relaxation. Do you have a favorite genre or does it vary for you too?
I've listened to the same 25-ish J-POP song for decades. I just never get tired of listening to them. So energetic, full of life and happiness. I don't have to pay for them every month.... and it's always spectacular when my memory kicks in and I recognize a random Japanese word from my college days!
I listen to whatever feels good, but I almost always tend to listen to older stuff. However, though, I admit, I am prejudiced against newer stuff unfairly. For instance, I wouldn't give Bruno Mars the time of day until I found out some cool songs were by him.
But then I guess we need to define what "something cool" translates to. For me, it's music that I find my body wants to move with. And I'll agree, most contemporary stuff, feels flat, and I'm not really sure why.
I mainly listen to synth based music, like video game music, classic house music and stuff from Sabrina Carpenter. I also enjoy listening to heavy metal like Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Megadeth. I also love 90's grunge like Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. I even like a little bit of 90's country like Shania Twain lol. The only music I don't really care for is dubstep and Rap.
There's good and bad in every genre. You gotta realize that also.
I like classic rock. Some of my favorite bands are The Doors, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. I usually don't listen to contemporary music, but sometimes I like to listen to Adele.
I like to listen to oldies (60s, 70s, and 80s music mostly) on my cell phone. I also like alternative music like neo-Mo-Town if I can find it.
I don't like modern music that gets the approval of the music establishment, generally.
