What Is the Hardest Part of Running an Internet Radio Station?

Uptrend · 1 week ago · 3 replies · 90

The truth is, the hardest part is money. You look at the server costs, licensing fees, data for streaming, equipment maintenance and some more. Everything is just costly, and if you don't have advertisers, you could run at loss. Another one is building audience because there are thousands of stations out there competing, getting people to tune in and actually stay is so difficult to be honest. Who is running a station? How are you surviving?

The hard part is getting listeners to frequent your station. You can do everything right, but if people don’t see the need to stay long or even check back it can be a source of concern.

Yeah it sure aint cheap running a radio station. I spend a lot on music licensing each year. Gaining listeners is also really hard as @Uptrend mentioned. I have to run facebook ads constantly to try attracting new listeners, but this also costs a lot of money. Its worth it in the long run in my opinion though and it’s a real passion of mine.

Yes, money is the main issue. Music licensing alone can consume all your budget, talk less of the server costs and streaming data. But because it's your passion, you won't give up until you make it.
