Is Cable TV Dead?

Nomad · 2 weeks ago · 6 replies · 105

In the age of streaming, I think Cable TV subscriptions are usually unnecessary expenses. On the internet, you can watch YouTube, TikTok, and many other entertainment sources for free or much cheaper than cable TV. Streaming services like Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc. are a better alternative if you want to watch specific TV shows or movies.

However, I have a cable TV service offered for free by my internet service provider.

It's not completely gone, but it’s definitely declining. Streaming services are more convenient for many people, but cable TV still has live sports, news, and channels that keep many viewers subscribed. I know some people who still use it.

Cable TV in general are dying a slow death in my country and I think it's the same for other countries too. During their era, we were paying crazy monthly subscription just to watch some repeated movies and adverts every 10 minutes. That's a pure scam. Now, the streaming platforms and YouTube give you total freedom to watch what you want and when you want it.

Cable TV is already dead here. No one is watching it again. We have all run to the streaming platforms. I haven't seen cable TVs in a while. They are history now.

I don’t think Cable is 100% dead, there’s plenty of doctor’s offices that still have cable subscriptions for their patients. Also mechanic shops typically have cable services too so their customers can watch tv while waiting for their car to get fixed.

I wouldn’t say that cable TV has completely declined, but it is showing signs of slowing, with services such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, and Prime really starting to take off.

I do still have cable TV myself, but it is for things such as football matches live on channels I would not have unless I had cable, or for the newest movies that my family wish to watch.

Yeah, that was years ago; nowadays, people only watch it out of habit or if they’re part of a very specific niche. It died the moment they were forced to combine the internet with TV—it was inevitable, really; the internet just swept everything away.
