Can You Outgrow a Book You Once Considered a Favorite?

E eLdavis · 2 weeks ago · 3 replies · 85

Sometimes a book that once felt perfect no longer has the same effect when we return to it years later. The characters we once admired might seem frustrating, the story may feel less exciting, or themes that once spoke to us might no longer reflect who we are. Have you ever gone back to a former favorite and realized you've outgrown it, or do your favorite books usually stand the test of time?

Well, I have been seriously reading since I was a kid. However, my opinion of the books, characters, and even the author hasn’t changed all these years. The books I considered good when I read 20 years ago are still good for me., and the books I considered bad are still bad for me

That has never happened to me though. The books I loved reading when I was young are still books I want to read presently. If anything those books shaped my love for reading, so I am not letting them go just because I grew older.

I suppose so, but it’s strange that this is happening to you—it’s like no longer enjoying a movie that I used to love; it’s very odd for that to be the case.
