Is DNFing a Book Giving Up—or Simply Respecting Your Time?

E eLdavis · 2 weeks ago · 2 replies · 82

Every reader eventually encounters a book they just can't get into. Maybe the writing isn't working for you, the story is moving too slowly, or the characters aren't keeping your attention. The question is whether you should push through because you started it or simply put it down and move on. Do you think DNFing a book is giving up too easily, or is it simply knowing when a book isn't worth your time?

If I find it difficult to go through a book that I am reading, I just let it be. I might take it up another time, or probably never. I have come to understand that it is not a must to finish every book I started.

Giving up—why did they abandon it? The only reason would be that you didn’t like it; otherwise, why would you abandon it?
