What was the first series to become famous worldwide?

I have no idea what the first truly globally famous series might have been. I’m not talking about a show that was only popular in the U.S. or a few other countries; I mean a series that literally reached every corner of the globe. Since I’m asking about the first one, I assume it must have been a television series—but I don’t know which one it was. Does anyone know which legendary series managed to transcend all cultural boundaries to achieve worldwide reach?
