Who are shadow people?

Shadow people are mysterious figures that usually appear during night. However, some people have also reported seeing them during the daytime as well. These figured can appear while a person is asleep and they are usually associated with sleep paralysis. So, who are these people? Have you ever encountered them?

Yes, I have seen something at night. A few weeks ago, I woke up and saw something dark, and somewhat narrow, not human form, but somewhat like it, and it was stroking my hair. Very odd. When I sat up, it was gone. So it might have been me dreaming, but maybe not?
