Do you fast?

S Shawn · 4 months ago · 6 replies · 325

I've started this new fasting routine.

I don't eat breakfast (aside from 2 days a week when I'm super active and need fuel) and I quit eating after 8 pm altogether.

So far, it's made my gut problems almost non-existent.

I've lost some weight and my energy level has increased.

I'll keep doing it.

Have any of you tried fasting at all?

Some studies have suggested that fasting improves insulin sensitivity. I do fast sometimes. In many cases, I just do not eat food or eat food just once a day. This depends a lot on how hungry I am. Sometimes I consume light snacks that help me a lot when I am not that hungry. Regardless of that, I do fast in a strict sense occasionally. People should not consume heavy meals when ending their fast.

I tried doing that for a couple weeks, but it just made me hungrier later in the day and I ended up eating more calories than I would have if I had just eaten breakfast. So now I make sure I eat something if I feel hungry, which sometimes takes an hour after I've gotten out of bed.

Fasting requires a lot of willpower, especially when you are fasting for longer hours. I believe that fasting is much better than dieting. Some studies have suggested that dieting does not work. However, fasting us a completely different thing. You could have a decent meal (not heavy meal) when you start fasting. This will ensure that you do not end up eating more while you are fasting. I have tried fasting and it really improves health.

I do not fast and even as a Catholic when we have to fast on certain days I do not do that either as seniors are exempted😄

Yes, I do. However, it is largely for religious, rather than health, reasons. That said, there are a number of documented health benefits to fasting at times. So it can be a win-win.

I don't fast, but I have friends that do it's part of their religion.
