Could sleeping too much cause health problems?

Sleep deprivation is a huge problem for many people. However, many people believe that sleeping for longer hours is also quite bad for humans. Some studies suggest that there are some correlation between sleeping for longer hours and facing health problems such as cognitive decline and heart diseases. So is that really the case?

I wonder if the sleeping isn't the problem, but that there is a problem already in the body that causes the extra sleep to happen? What are your thoughts on that?

I reckon that sleep apnea and idiopathic hypersomnia could cause a person to sleep in an excessive manner. There are various other disease that could also make a person sleepy. Narcolepsy is one such kind of disorder hat could cause excessive sleep.

I know a few who sleep too much without any health issues and they are doing fine with their health but not so with their wealth😄 But most of the time those who over sleep do have health issues.
