Many multinational companies have logos. Their logo is their symbol. Companies like Microsoft have a unique logo. So, do these companies hire local freelancers when it comes to getting their ligis designed?

Many of those companies have internal graphic designers. They would design the logos. If not, they may hire a freelancer based on a recommendation. I doubt the big companies like Microsoft are hiring just anyone off Fiverr and alike.

I used to work for advertising/marketing companies and we sometimes did logos for companies. The big name ones went to the really big name advertising companies! You wouldn’t believe how much money was wasted on creating one logo!

Those big companies don't hire people like us. They use the big branding agencies and sometimes the design process takes months after having so many meetings.

Don't tske it lightly, big companies usually hire specialist branding agencies or use in-house design teams. The process begins with market research and brand strategy, followed by multiple logo concepts, internal reviews, testing, and refinement. The final logo becomes part of a broader identity system with colors, fonts, and usage guidelines. Some companies appoint their own on permanent basis.
