In my day job, I investigate internal violations and criminal activities. My investigations are often use for evidence for court and human resources. Because of that, we have to be thorough especially when doing criminal/fraud/AML investigations.
I try to take those investigative skills to forums. Non-bias reviews of what happened, talking to all parties involved, and then coming up with a moderation or enforcement action based on what has occurred and the seriousness of it all.
A lot of toxicity that comes from moderating issues usually derives from moderators getting it wrong, because it’s too easy to be bias and opinionated.
