What kinds of local clubs or groups are you involved in? We aren’t involved in anything currently, but are looking into getting into some hiking groups once my husband retires. There are some senior citizen groups as well that we are interested in for when he retires and if we’re living in those areas. They offer $2 lunches 😄 Score.
This past month, I did the Shawnee Hills 50K trail race,
I ran a total of 32.5 miles in a little over 12 hours. I placed in the 80s of about 100 runners.
The goal was to finish and that’s what I did.
The first 17 miles was fast. I ran most of them. Then I got blisters on both feet and run/hiked/limped the rest of the way.
As a result, I’ve bought better trail running shoes and better running-specific socks.
For my first ever 50K, it wasn’t bad, but it was very hard.
I’m an ultra runner now and now I’m hooked!

Would you run outside during extreme temperatures?
For example, would you run outside during 100-degree weather or higher? How about if the temperature was below freezing?
If you would, how would you do so comfortably?
If not, what would you do instead?
Howdy everyone,
I’m happy to announce that I have given this forum its own domain name.
These addresses should both work for the forum:
Note: You may need to re-login for the new domain name.
I hope the new domain name is a convenience for you all.
It’s that typical counting game!

What’s your favorite gel?
I’ve been using GU forever. I’d love to try different ones.
What would you suggest I try?
How often do you run a 5K?
Do you go to organized 5K trail or road runs for training?
Do you have any chafing issues at all as a trail runner?
If yes, what is chafing on you?
How are you managing it?
Do you drink coffee? How do you like your coffee?
I’ve drank coffee since I was very small. I drink in black and as strong as possible. I drink about 3 to 5 cups a day.
Lately, I’ve been trying to buy local coffee. I prefer beans, so that I can grind it up myself.
How about you all?
If you were training for a 100-mile ultra-trail run, how would you prepare?
I’m especially interested in hearing from folks who have run one and how they trained for it.
Are any of you into paddling?
Such as kayaking, canoeing, SUP, rowing, etc.
What all socks are you all using for trail running?
I recently picked up a pair of SmartWool ankle socks for running. I’m excited to try them out.
I’m also interested in toe socks as they claim each toe being wrapped will prevent blistering.
How about you all?
I keep getting stopped when I try to post a GIF in my post. How long does that happen for?

Gizmo found his way in here. No feeding me after midnight! 😛
Do any of you take BCAAs for trail running?
Do you do it before, during, or after?
I take my BCAA powder mixed with ice water right after a run. It keeps me from getting that “running hangover” the next day.
Do any of you use trekking poles for trail running?
If so, what brand are you using and how do you like them?
How often do you train?
How many times a week do you go for a run?
I was doing it once a week, but I’m increasing it to 2-3 times a week. I want to comfortable run a half-marathon every week.
Have any of you been injured from trail running at all?
If yes, what sort of injuries have you had, and how did you overcome them?
All I’ve had so far are a few blisters from an ultra, but those heal over time. I’m trying new socks to see if that helps.
What are your favorite electrolytes to use for trail running?
Why do you like these over others?
Have you tried many others?
What’s the worst part about training for trail running?
What do you dislike doing the most?
What would make you change your mind about it and not hate it so much?
Is there anything about trail running that you hate or dislike?
What is your trail running pet peeves?
Why do these things bother you about trail running?
Anyone into hiking at all?
I’m a very avid hiker. I hike every weekend and have done so for about 16 years now.
I buy these fig nuten bars from SAM'S CLUB, 2 in a pack, either blueberry or strawberry.
I really like those.
I also do CliffBlocks (black cherry) and GU gel (triberry or blackberry).
How about you all? What snacks are you using?
How far do you typically run for training?
I train twice a week. I’ll run a 5K (3.1 miles) one day, then do a long run of 7 to 10 miles.
I try to add another mile to the long run each time I go out.
Do you use running tights or leggings in cooler weather for trail running?
I have a few pairs of non-insulated Janji trail tights I wear. I have some insulated tights, but I tend to sweat easily, so I rarely wear them.
In most cases, I’ll wear a running long-sleeve shirt and a pair of half tights (like biker shorts for men) when it’s cold to balance myself out; otherwise, I’ll sweat a lot.
