I started my journey as a webmaster when I was a teenager at the age of 14. I've managed and ran a few different websites since those early days. I have now been a webmaster for 22 years now. I see myself contining my career as a webmaster for many, many, more years.
What about you? How long have you been a webmaster?
I started back in 2003. I was working as a Software Support Specialist, and one of my co-workers was huge into web development. He kinda got the itch started for me. So I created a lame website about my interests, mostly old cartoons and rekindling bygone friendships. Then I discovered forums, and installed YABB. Then I upgraded to YABBse, and pivoted into my new found hobby of anime and I ran that site (after upgrading to SMF) until 2012.
I wouldn't qualify myself as a Webmaster, but certianly a Forum Administrator, because I barely understand how to use a DIV and CSS properly.
Anyway, after taking a break from the whole Internet thing, I came back in 2020 and tried again. Prismatica is like my fifth attempt to get a community going again. Sadly, it seems most people would rather hang out on Social Media platforms nowadays. But, I'm deteremined to get something started, so.... that's my story.
I started my journey as a webmaster when I was 15 years old, which would have been in 2001. I remember my first ever site was a fan site for the band Five, as I was a huge fan of them as a teen.
I remember creating the site using Geocities, and that is where I started learning HTML and CSS :)
I built my first self hosted website in 2015, without any skills or knowledge. I watched youtube to build a website. By the end of 2016, I was running half a dozen websites. That's when I decided to call myself a webmaster.
I started around the lockdown period when everybody was looking for online hustle. I learnt from YouTube videos and I was very dedicated and determined to learn. That was what worked for me.
Since around 1997. I was 13 then. Next year will be 30 years.
I had a static site about guitar lessons around 2005. I got into web development - like am now into it - around 2009 with some employment blogs (and a drum lesson one).
I think I started out around 2011 and 2012…….
I think I started my first forum around that time. I’m not 100% on that…..it’s been so long ago. I do remember what my first forum was, however, I don’t remember exactly when I started it.
