The biggest forum that I ever built from the ground up had 270,000 posts, and over 10,000 members. This was my second version of VPL, and I'm a firm believer that I will do it again and break my biggest forum's record in the near future.
What about you? What is the biggest forum that you ever built from the ground up?
I've always had small forums. I think the most I ever got was close to 200 members, but sadly, only like 10 of them were ever active. It didn't help that I had some server reboots (hardware failures, etc) that caused me to rebuld the forum a couple of times from scratch.
The biggest forum I ever built would have been Chat Addicts that ran from 2009 - 2017. It was at the beginning of 2017 that I had to close it as the hosting costs increased by quite a lot, and I wanted to try something new.
I have since tried to reopen Chat Addicts and rebuild it, but not having the time to dedicate, I ended up giving up. I will still always have the memories of the original.
The largest one I've had in terms of members was Mighty No. 9 Universe. In terms of posts I believe Thee Zone is the largest one I've had. I had almost 200 members on Mighty No. 9 Universe.
Biggest forum I have ever built had 35 thousand posts and around 400 members. I had debt to settle so I sold it.
I’ve managed a forum with thousands of users but everywhere was quiet like a graveyard. I still prefer small but very active space were people are talking daily.
270,000 posts and 10,000 members is a big achievement to be honest. Building a large forum takes time, consistency, and good content which is the most difficult part. So,my biggest forum had about 2,000 posts only.
Once upon a time, I grew a forum to several hundred thousand posts and over 10K members. Then I acquired the competition (for quite a bit of money) and took the posts to over a million and the membership to around 100K.
Back then I didn’t back stuff up. I was dumb for that.
Database error/crash, lost everything.
