Do you prefer curtains or blinds?

Growing up, when I was living at home with my parents, we always had curtains unless it was in the bathroom, then we would have a blind.

Since getting my own house and turning it into a home, I have found that I prefer blinds in some rooms, such as the kitchen, bedrooms and also the bathroom, but in the living rooms and dining rooms, I much prefer curtains.

Do you prefer curtains or blinds when it comes to your home?

I prefer using blinds because I can control the lighting better. However, during the winter months, I prefer a good set of thick curtains because I can keep the cold air out and the warmth inside.

But blinds are a pain in the butt to fix. I still prefer blinds though.

Now a question for the blinds-lovers:

Do you prefer vertical blinds or horizontal blinds?

I hate blinds because they're such a pain to keep clean! I much prefer curtains, but I've also made some roman shade blinds out of fabric that are nice. This past couple of months we found that the 2nd story just gets too hot because we have old windows, so we opted to put up room darkening curtains and it's helped a lot to keep it cooler upstairs.

Yeah, don't get me started on cleaning the darn blinds. Over the winter, I was cleaning my apartment, and noticed how dusty and outright dirty my blinds were. I thought I could just take them down and give them a quick rinse in my bathtub

Nope! I ended up breaking the blind somehow when I took it down. Three little plastic pieces fell out and they somehow work as a lever to keep the strings working. So now I don't have a blind in my living room. (Or a curtain for that matter, because I'm poor and broke, and I need to buy a curtain rod and curtains.) So now, I've got a clear, double-folded trash bag from work taped over my window (poor-girls weatherproofing) that makes it translucent. Light comes in, but people can't really see in. I also can't really see outside either.

Maybe when/IF I get a tax refund next year, I can finally afford to buy some new blinds and/or curtains and actually start decorating my apartment that I've lived in for three years now as is. Bland. I need some art. Anime wall posters of magical girls would be epic! But pricing the frames for the posters are like $60! Who's got that kind of money?!

Aw, that sucks. I have some old blinds from the previous owners that have plastic that's breaking from the sunlight and age, so it's probably nothing you did wrong.

Horiizontal blinds because vertical ones remind me of prison bars (although I've never been in prison).

Curtains are easier to deal with. We use them in our house.

We have both curtains and blinds in our house, I definitely prefer curtains especially since I have a cat and he likes to poke his head through the blinds so he’s broke a few pairs we had. :V

When we were in the city we had a smallr flat with just a few doors and windows We used curtains there. But this place has 31window s and several door. We have blinds for al lwindoes and curtains only for oth bedrooms.

I prefer curtains because they give the room a warm and cozy feel. Blinds are okay for kitchens and bathrooms, but for living rooms, curtains are better.

When we living in a flat we had curtains but now we have a bigger house with 31 windows. We have opted for blinds for windows and curtain for doors - just for the bedroom and rest room area
