Is moving your forum to a subdirectory better for domain authority? There are so many arguments on this. Some people say subdirectory would get its authority from main domain, while subdomain is treated like a separate site. For new forums, subdirectory could help you rank faster because Google has already trust your main domain. What do you think?
It depends.
Is your forum your main platform?
If it is, then it should stay as the root website. No directory.
If it’s a secondary platform, I’d make it a directory before I’d make it a subdomain. Subdomains are so underused that I forget they’re a feature. No one is really using them anymore. I just wanted to mention that, as I find that kind of interesting.
Here’s the thing, though…
If you plan to make your forum a secondary directory, then that means you’ll have a main platform as your root. Most likely a blog. Just make sure you consistently keep the root content up-to-date and refreshed often; otherwise, moving the forum might actually hurt you in terms of SEO.
