How would you reset your sleep schedule for a new continent?

Yarik · 3 days ago · 4 replies · 34

Moving to a new continent sounds exciting, but then the 10-to-12 hours flight hits. I’ve never been on a plane myself, but I’m going to guess it might get uncomfortable after so many hours. And the there’s the problem with your sleep schedule - you will probably sleep during the day for the first few weeks. How would you adjust to the new time zone?

I would stay up until exhaustion so I can go to bed at local bedtime, and try to be more physically active during the day.

So when are you moving to New Zealand?

I'd probably try to stay awake until a reasonable local bedtime too, although I wouldn't deliberately push myself to complete exhaustion 😂 I'd get outside, explore my new surroundings and try to keep my meals and bedtime in line with the new time zone. I think the hardest part would be resisting the temptation to have a “quick nap” that accidentally lasts until tomorrow 🤣🙈

As soon as I manage to get a job there. 😂 Then I need to find a place to live at.

That’s a good question. I suppose I wouldn't have any other choice but to try and tire myself out as much as possible on the first day by staying awake as long as I can, and then—when bedtime rolls around—try to sleep. If I can't, maybe I'd look at boring things online until I fall asleep out of sheer boredom; that way, I'd start getting used to the new schedule.
