Does growing older automatically make someone wiser?

T TheGhostWhoStayed · 5 days ago · 9 replies · 66

As we grow older, we gain more experiences, face different challenges, and hopefully learn from our mistakes. But does age really make someone wiser, or is wisdom more about how willing we are to learn and change? We've all met older people who keep making the same mistakes and younger people who seem to understand life surprisingly well.

Do you think wisdom naturally comes with age, or does it depend more on the lessons we choose to learn?

Yes. A lot of times when you look back you always think “If I knew then what I know now, things could be different”

Yes. Because we learn and discover new things everyday as we grow, growing older can make someone become wise, only if you are willing to learn something new.

It is expected that as one ages, one must have gathered so much experiences that would help them to be wiser. Many people actually stop t learn from those experiences as they are age and get wiser. There are also many people that don't learn from those experiences as they age. Those ones would never be wiser as they age.

No, it doesn't. I've seen old folks grow old being fools. When I hear them talk, I would be wondering how they survived that long.

I do not think that growing old always makes a person wiser. I reckon that there are still many people who are old. However, they never actually do things a wise person would ever do. However, many people really do become wise by the passage of time. There are some studies that suggest that growing old does make a person wise. However, this actually depends on the personality of an individual.

I don’t think age automatically makes someone wiser. You can have loads of life experience, but it’s whether you learn from it that matters. Some people keep making the same mistakes, while others are open to learning at any age : )

Definitely not. I’ve seen a lot of immature older people.

There’s a certain point where yes, people are wiser when they’re older and that’s because our brains aren’t fully developed until around age 25.

Now, when you get past your 50s, I do believe that the brain starts to get less sharp and that could be due to hormones. I know I do a lot of stupid stuff and am forgetful and that’s definitely because of different types of hormone imbalances happening in my body.

I do believe that someone getting older does mean that they become wiser as they go through life.

I have on many occassions made mistakes in the past, and I have always learned from those mistakes, which has in turn made me much wiser and a better person.

I always remember growing up being told that as you get older, you become wiser, and that is very true.
