Forum or Blog? Which would you choose today based on the internet today?

Lunelle · 2 days ago · 6 replies · 55

Forums and blogs are still thriving on the internet, but many will say that blogs tend to do better than forums as it stands in 2026, despite forums still being widely used by many on the internet, even now.

If you were given an option to open either a blog or a forum today, and thinking about the two and how often each is used by internet users of today, which would you choose?

What would be your reason for making this specific choice between a forum and a blog?

You get more interactions with a forum while a blog is easier to run. I've made forums for longer though so I'll choose that.

I think a blog is harder these days…

Blogs for articles or all about your own life, forums for everything else. I’ve always used forums, never had a personal blog before.

If I were to start over today, I would choose the blog because it's easier to get traffic from Google and monetize with ads. Forums are very difficult to grow and engagement is also very low nowadays because of the popularity of social media.

I enjoy both having a blog and a forum, but with the way the internet has changed over the many years, I will admit that it is now a lot more difficult to get interaction and even interest when it comes to a forum.

If I am looking at wanting to monetise a site, and I have an interest in something, I will choose a blog and write about what I am passionate about.

I now run forums for fun and as a hobby, and any kind of monetisation that is successful helps with the upkeep of the forum, but I don’t expect to earn anything from a forum.

Well, I think it is a different strokes for different folks. For me I rather go with a forum. It is on forums that you see users to even interact with than blogs. Blogs you do solo writing and not much interaction from readers unlike forums just like this one. Then you can monetized it how you want to
