Do you prefer Mac or PC?

AppleJaxie · 1 week ago · 9 replies · 141

Up until recently I was a die-hard Mac user. Before that I spent most of my life all about Windows. In all of my jobs before my last one, I was able to use a Mac which I preferred. But I was doing a lot on my PC and it was definitely better at multi-tasking. Totally fine having PC for work now, and Mac for personal use.

I still despise the forced updates on Windows though.

I’ve never used a Mac, and I have no interest in using one either; they’re too expensive and exclusive, and they have so many limitations—I don’t like that. Windows is completely open, and you can do whatever you want, so I’d choose a PC over a Mac any day.

I remember when I was in college, and I did work experience in a school for my childcare course, the only computers that the school had available were Mac computers, and as much as I eventually learned to use one, it was never a computer I ever wanted to go back to or even own myself.

I much prefer a PC or laptop running Windows, and I am happy that way. I can also use Linux, but again, I much prefer a PC even with Linux.

Even without having used one myself, I feel the same way; every video I’ve seen online about Macs makes me want to run in the opposite direction. I won’t deny that the quality is excellent—it works incredibly well for everything—but it’s so limited in terms of what you can actually do, comes with so many restrictions, and is somewhat complex, too. I don’t like it at all; I prefer Windows—it’s completely practical and easy to understand.

These days I prefer Linux but since some of the programs I use aren’t compatible I dual boot with Windows 11 and Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu installed on a external SSD and Windows on my internal one. I never used a Mac and I don’t think I ever will. Those same programs that don’t work on Linux certainly do not work on mac either since it’s a Unix like operating system just like Linux.

That’s exactly what I was going to tell you: using programs freely on Linux—the way you do on Windows—can be a real headache, assuming you can even get them to work at all. If you run into a compatibility issue like the one you mentioned, you’ll have no choice but to use Windows; it’s a good thing, then, that you have a dual-boot setup for situations like this.

I have never used a Mac before, so I do not have personal experience in this aspect, but I have used Windows several times, so naturally my choice is a window pc.

Windows updates is another level of stress for me. They want to update frequently which might interrupt your work. It's a good thing but I don't want to be interrupted. Mac don't do that. That is why I prefer it.

It’s just SO ANNOYING. I understanding wanting to make sure stuff is updated, but to force the update is ridiculous.

However, you can pause updates and install them whenever you like; you aren’t required to update your PC the moment a new update is released. You can let them accumulate and then update Windows—for instance, over the weekend—and continue doing this week by week.
