Does your keyboard have a backlight?

Ravenfreak · 6 months ago · 6 replies · 4K

I think most laptops have keyboards that have RGB or just a backlight so you can see in the dark when you type. But perhaps you have a desktop computer and the keyboard doesn't have a backlight? My keyboard has RGB lights, but it doesn't cycle through the colors you can just pick between green (which is the default), red, purple, yellow, blue, white, and teal. I typically have it set to the default color since green is my favorite color.

My laptop has a backlight, but I have it hooked up to an external keyboard because I also have a 2nd monitor that I use. The external one is NOT backlit, but that's okay because I rarely look down anyway. I took typing in high school, and we were taught to not look down unless absolutely necessary.

Yes of course, my laptop keyboard have a backlight. In fact, all laptop should have this feature because it's a very important one. It's just like smartphones too, they have it which enables users to type in the dark.

Yep and I can change it colors based on my mood as well through a software app. It's a neat thing.

It's not possible to use laptop at night because I can't see what I'm typing on the keyboard if it doesn't have backlight. Even with the backlight, I have my room lights on when I'm working.

My ASUS laptop has a keyboard backlight that I can change up if I want to within the Armoury Crate App. I often change it to one colour, but every so often like to change it to something that flashes through each colour depending on my mood.

My Lenovo laptop, which is now almost 12 years old, has a backlight, but it is just white, and I can not customise it.

I never knew how important having a backlit keyboard is, not even for night use. All my personal laptop keyboards, even my desktop keyboard, have always had a backlit feature that can be adjusted depending on the level of light (or turned off during the day). However, I just started a new job a few months ago and the laptop they assigned to me, as well as all of the ones used by my team, have no backlit keyboard. It's so odd to not implement a backlit keyboard in 2026, I guess they are common for budget-friendly laptops. It makes such a huge difference, I noticed it right away when the lighting wasn't as good or trying to work at night. It's almost impossible if you don't know where all the keys are. I think backlit keyboards should be a priority and come standard on all laptops, just like the ability to change brightness or sound. Lights can be cheap, it shouldn't increase the cost by much just by adding lights.
