What is your policy for signatures?

Nomad · 6 months ago · 6 replies · 9K

Do you have any specific policies for forum signature? I see some forums have "no links" or "no more than one or two" links in the signature.
I do not have a specific policy for signature but my forum guideline suggests that users shouldn't use too many links, or link to phishing or porn sites.

I'm not really fussed so long as people don't have any adult content or have a signature that's too big.

The same applies, but if the forum is 18+ I have no problem with pornography or adult content; the problem is phishing. That's a big problem for me, and I will ban anyone who posts phishing links.

Signatures is another issue on their own and if you do not control it, your forum would look like a spam board. I remember how some users are dropping crypto links and it cover up their post. It almost made the forum look suspicious. This is exactly why I stopped allowing unlimited links.

On Christianity Haven we allow people to have a signature for certain sites, as long as they allow us a link back in some way. We don't allow signatures that promote the sale of a service or product really because our members don't want that anyway. We prefer the banners to be on the smaller size because members complain if they're too large. Everything is for the sake of the community.

I don't really mind what's put there, as long as it abides by all of the main rules (e.g. nothing illegal or inappropriate, and no advertising any commercial business), and it isn't going to cause loading issues or otherwise irritate people (e.g. with distracting blinking or flashing effects).

I used to have a rule that the signature's height cannot exceed 350 pixels - but, I eventually added a scrollbar to take care of that automatically :P .

I don't really like them for my forums because it comes across as spamming. It just seems annoying. However, though, if someone isn't posting a link and wants that sort of signature, then that's fine, but I don't know how to implement that feature.
