Unique niche or popular niche, what is your preference?

When it comes to creating a forum, what is your preference, would you like to work on unique niche (or something that is not heavily explored) or popular niche. There are pros and cons of both, but what would you choose for your forum. I would like to go for unique niche because it will be a lot easier to build authority.

I tend to go with popular niches. It might take longer to get members but I'm not too worried.

I always tend to lean more towards the more popular niches. I do have a community that is a bit different though which talks about alternatives to the big tech giant versions of programs and websites people use. My other forums are either a general discussion forum or a video game forum.

I kind of prefer niches that I'm interested in. Otherwise, I find that it's the same old, same old discussions. I like learning new things and seeing other opinions. It's sad that the niche forums don't get as filled up as they should with activity.

I like both of them. However, unique niches are a pain to get posts, unless you're paying for the posts.
