What are your thoughts on pay-to-post forums?

Shortie · 6 months ago · 7 replies · 8K

Pay-to-post forums are forums that seem to have become popular since the pandemic, but seem to be somewhat falling when it comes to people wanting to run them because of how much they cost to keep running.

What are your thoughts on pay-to-post forums? Could they work if done right with the right planning?

They don't last. Discussion Bucks has even had to remove their pay to post feature.

In the past 10 years I have been very active on paid to post forums, I like them. It is good for both the owner as well as posters. While the owner can maintain an active community, posters are rewarded for their work. But sadly sustainability is the main issue.

Pay-to-post is a great idea on paper but in reality, it's different. I tried it once and I saw how people were spamming the forum. They turned it into money farming. They drop low quality content just to cash out. Those posts had zero value. I wont say it can’t work, but you need strict rules and strong moderation.

I agree with you on that!! I've tried visiting some paid to post forums just to help out the owner (not for payment but because they were friends), and it was so difficult finding posts to respond to where things weren't already said. There just isn't a community feel to them.

@Gizmo Some paid to post forums have lasted for a really long time. Some forums like trendri are still online and they are still paying their members. The good thing about paid to post forums is the fact that they do become popular by the passage of time.

They are good for people in nations with an exchange rate advantage. For instance, in such nations, I'm guessing 10 USD could feed you at a basic level for a week. Note: I'm not being sarcastic or hateful here, but just stating facts.

I feel like they don't really last long, plus conversations on those forums tend to repeat themselves or there's no quality behind them. People are there to make a quick buck, not to really engage in a meaningful way IMO. I understand you need money in order to survive and many people just need a paycheck but I don't feel like conversations flow well and eventually the money dries out. Or in rare cases you get scammed, I recall there was another forum owned by a guy named Brad and there was a time he became inactive and didn't pay people...
