Building a Computer

Who has built a computer? How much did it cost? What was your strategy? How would you compare pre-built to homemade?

Has anyone just strongly or mildly considered building a computer?

My first computer was supposed to be pre-built, but it was several years ago during the graphics card shortage, so pre-built was my only option unless I wanted to buy second-hand for triple the price. I just bought a basic spec computer from Best Buy that I knew nothing about as my first gaming PC. At the end of 2025 though, I wanted to upgrade. So when the new NVIDIA 5080 graphics cards were released, I was able to snag one for retail price and started building my own computer with the help from my brother and watching YouTube videos. It was the best decision and would recommend it to others. It's definitely a learning curve but a great conversation starter telling people you built your own computer. It's much cheaper than buying pre-built and you can customize parts with specific brands/capabilities to get the best bang for your buck.
