What do you do? Buy gear or buy it because of the name?

Personally I go for what will help me. I believe that other People don't buy brands. They buy benefits. Brands are significantly more expensive than unbranded gears too. So you might not be buying the value perse but the brand.Some brand justify the extra cost by being better than the unbranded version. But in some cases isn't true . I just go for whst gives value for less.
I buy for functionality, not so much the name.
I have a lot of cheaper gear that works great for me, but no one has ever heard of it.
It depends, for some it's usually simply because of the brand, for others they are simply after functionality.
