"How to Survive a Horror Story"

DramaK:

That sounds really interesting! How long did it take to read?

It took a couple of weeks for me to read. I have only been able to read for a little bit in the evenings before I go to bed, unless it's my day off.

Read out loud or in your head?

DramaK:

I read in my head because I understand it better. If I read out loud, then I'm trying hard to sound like the characters. I probably sound ridiculous too!

I like reading in my head too. I just don't even enjoy reading out aloud as it would mean that I don't want to fully understand what I was reading. So, to understand things better, I read them in my head.

Finish with a book?

I keep them in the book shelfs. Some books are worth reading another time and that's the reason I keep them.

Tv shows go on for too long?

Minerva:

Gizmo:

Most shows nowadays are too short as they usually only get 8-10 episodes per season. Some used to have 20-24 episodes per season. I do feel shows like Game of Thrones went on far too long in their continued run.

I agree. Even the 8 to 10 is too short. I remember when there was at least 13 episodes in a season.

I'm a member of a couple of Star Trek Facebook groups and some people are really unhappy that they don't do 20-25 episodes per season now. It is a bit hard to do that now when each episode is roughly 10-20 million dollars to make. You can tell the difference between old Trek and new Trek though based on the quality. Things were easier to make in the old days.

Spotify Audiobooks

If you sign up to a paid premium plan for Spotify you get 15 hours of free audiobooks per month. It might not seem like much but I personally have never exceeded that.

I think it's a great deal especially if you already use Spotify for music.

Do you take advantage of this on Spotify?

David Walliams

David Walliams is one of my favorite children book authors. A few of his books have been turned into movies.

Sadly he has a habit of saying the wrong things at the wrong time so his book contract is currently suspended. He also got taken off being a judge on Britain's Got Talent for saying some real risky things.

He's one of my favorite comedians as well. I love Little Britain.

Going on holiday?

My vacations are usually spent going back to where we used to live to visit family. This year, we're going to visit Tennessee to see my husband's aunt and uncle and also figure out if we want to live there when my husband retires.

How Did You First Get Into Gaming?

How did you first get into gaming?

For me it started years ago just playing casually on PC, and over time it slowly turned into a bigger hobby. These days I spend a lot of time with flight simulators and other PC games, and it’s something I really enjoy doing.

It’s interesting how everyone starts differently though. Some people started with consoles growing up, others started on PC, and some only got into gaming later on.

Would be interesting to hear what everyone’s first gaming experience was.

What was the first game or system you remember playing?

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s stories! 🎮

What Does Your Gaming or Flight Sim Setup Look Like?

Thought it might be interesting to see what kind of setups people here are running for gaming or flight simulation.

Everyone’s setup is different, some people run full cockpit builds while others have a simple desk setup with a joystick or controller.

My own setup is fairly simple but it gets the job done. I’m always looking for ideas though on how people organise their desks, monitors, and hardware.

Things like:
What PC specs you’re running
What monitors you use
Any flight controls or special hardware
How you’ve arranged your desk

Feel free to post a photo if you want as well. Always nice seeing how people build their setups.

Might even give some of us ideas for future upgrades!

Favorite horror author?

Stephen King and I haven't read a lot of his books but I love the movie and TV adaptations they've done with his books. If I had to pick a favorite story it would be IT.

The House Saphir

Would anyone be interested in reading this?

Book Name: The House Saphir

Author: Marissa Meyer

Format: hardcover

Age Range: Young Adult (teen)

Genre: fantasy, romance, mystery, retellings, romantasy, fiction, gothic, ghosts,

Synopsis: Mallory Fontaine is a fraud. Though she comes from a long line of witches, the only magic she possesses is the ability to see ghosts, which is rarely as useful as one would think. She and her sister have maintained the family business, eking out a paltry living by selling bogus spells to gullible buyers and conducting tours of the infamous mansion where the first of the Saphir murders took place.

Mallory is a self-proclaimed expert on Count Bastien Saphir—otherwise known as Monsieur Le Bleu—who brutally killed three of his wives more than a century ago. But she never expected to meet Bastien's great-great grandson and heir to the Saphir estate. Armand is handsome, wealthy, and convinced that the Fontaine Sisters are as talented as they claim. The perfect mark. When he offers Mallory a large sum of money to rid his ancestral home of Le Bleu's ghost, she can’t resist. A paid vacation at Armand’s country manor? It’s practically a dream come true, never mind the ghosts of murdered wives and the monsters that are as common as household pests.

But when murder again comes to the House Saphir, Mallory finds herself at the center of the investigation—and she is almost certain the killer is mortal. If she has any hope of cashing in on the payment she was promised, she’ll have to solve the murder and banish the ghost, all while upholding the illusion of witchcraft.

But that all sounds relatively easy compared to her biggest learning to trust her heart. Especially when the person her heart wants the most might be a murderer himself.

Have the books always been better, in your opinion?

99% of the time, yes.

But I realize that's just my opinion. It's extremely rare for me to like the movie better than the book.

Hello and welcome to Cafe Creative.

This is a digital "third space" built for the curious and the craft-oriented. Whether you found your way here through a shared love for bespoke development, painterly digital art, or quiet storytelling, we’re glad you’ve pulled up a chair.
What is this place?

Cafe Creative is a community designed to be a relaxed alternative to the high-velocity, hyper-polished social web. We value:

 • Bespoke Code: Building things by hand—whether it’s with CodeIgniter, SQLite, or minimalist CSS.
 • Expressive Art: Embracing things where the human touch is still visible.
 • Slow Stories: Focusing on atmosphere, world-building, and the quiet, familiar kind of romance.
 • The Classics: A shared appreciation for the 90s and 2000s era stuff, from Patlabor and mecha design to the tight mechanics of RayStorm and Castlevania. And everything in between!

How to get involved

 • Introduce Yourself: Head over to the Community Chat and tell us what you’re currently working on, what you’re playing, or what you’re driving.
 • Show Your Work: Don't wait for perfection. Share your raw sketches in Art and Design or your latest devlog in Code and Tech.
 • Shape the Future: I’m currently building this community (and its future custom engine) in the open. Your feedback is what makes this lounge better.
