Name changes
People outgrow usernames. The name they picked at sixteen, the fandom that ended, the identity that changed; a good community lets names evolve without losing the person's history. The name change system handles it in an orderly way.

Community, then Name Changes: requests and history.
The flow
A member requests a new name from their settings.
The request lands in Community, then Name Changes for your review.
Approve it and the change applies everywhere at once: posts, mentions, profile. Decline it and the member keeps their current name.
Why the paper trail matters
Every change is recorded, so staff can always answer "who was this before?". That history is what makes name freedom safe: reputation and moderation records follow the person through every rename, and the member who caused trouble as one name doesn't get a clean slate as another.
Fast approvals make this feature feel like a right; slow ones make it feel like bureaucracy. Unless a requested name breaks your rules, there's rarely a reason to sit on it.
